GOVERNANCE

Helena River Steiner School is overseen by a Board which meets monthly and is bound by a Constitution. Our Constitution can be accessed here.

The role of the Board is to supervise compliance with the relevant laws and regulations, assess and manage risk, govern finance and develop and maintain the strategic direction of the School.

The Board members are elected by the School Association during the AGM and govern for a two-year period. All fee-paying parents are members of the Association, as are staff and also members of the community willing to abide by the objects of the Association. All members of the Association are notified of the date for the AGM three weeks in advance and invited to attend.

2023 Board Members

Peter Fern - Chairperson

• Secretary of the WA Branch of the Anthroposophical Society
Currently Employed as a Storeman
Secretary of the Western Australia Branch of the Anthroposophical Society
Member of the Management Group of the Anthroposophical Society
Vice-Chair of the Indus Project

Peter has been a member of the Board since its inception and is aware of the need for Anthroposophy for the adults in the school community. He has worked for the Government in Fisheries, Premiers Department, Railways and as a Prison Officer. Peter is an Anthroposophist of over 33 years. Within his role as Vice–Chair to the Indus Project, he is involved in an initiative to found an Anthroposophical inspired University in Western Australia. Peter has three children and twelve grand-children. He is passionate about Waldorf Education. Peter attended Governor Stirling Senior High School and was President of the Student Council there in 1974.
“I want to assist the establishment of Steiner Education in the Midland area. I attended high school in Midland in the 1970s”

 

Adam Lee - Board Member

Project Manager (Civil Construction)
Adam has 7+ years of Project Management in Civil Construction both for Metro and Mining projects. He was involved in construction and remediation of some iconic works such as North Fremantle Quay upgrade and Sydney Harbor Bridge remediation. Adam has strong critical reasoning and construction management skills.
“I have recently started exploring education related philosophy and ways of giving back to the community via education. I believe joining the Board will offer me insights into how the growing school operates. I believe with my skills, I can provide some direction with project management especially in relation to relocation project for the school.”

 

Boris Krestelica - Board Member

Procurement Specialist

Boris is a Procurement Specialist with over 10 years’ experience across government, energy and the resources sector. He passionately applies his unique skills to support the school's growth ambitions. Boris spent most of his school years in Switzerland, where he gained exposure to and an appreciation of the principles underpinning Steiner education.

“I have a strong interest in Steiner education and I believe that our community would benefit from a larger number of Steiner schools. I learned about HRSS's journey so far and felt drawn to be a part of its growth and development.” 

 

Gladstone Davies

• Retired Mineralogist
• Principal Consultant (Operating Mining Projects)
• PhD Geology, (Applied Mineralogy)
• BSc (Hons), Geology
• BSc (Geology, Chemistry)
• Member of the Anthroposophical Society of Australia

Gladstone has had 40 years experience working in Government, Higher Education and Private Industry in the areas of Research and Development, Mining and Processing.

“As I grew to understand more and more about Rudolf Steiner’s philosophy and methods, I came to realize that they have great relevance in today’s world. Therefore, I gladly joined the Board of the Helena River Steiner School when asked in 2017. My aim was/is to use the skills and experience gained in 40 years of working at various levels in Industry and Research Institutes, to help the School to reach its full potential. I now have three grandchildren enrolled in the School and am committed to its future success.”

 

Lisa Liu

• Finance Officer
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
• Bachelor of Health Science (Health Information Management)

Lisa is a dedicated Finance professional with over 5 years at the public health sector providing analysis on financial information and leadership on financial costing reporting. She has skills and experience in CPA, Contract Calculation and Project Management.

“I was on the Board previously and was willing to come back to provide assistance. My motivation is to get involved in Education because I have two kids at home.”
