An introduction to Helena River Steiner School
“The heart of the Waldorf method is that education is an art, it must speak to the child’s experience. To educate the whole child, his heart and his will must be reached, as well as the mind.” – Rudolf Steiner
Greetings! We are so pleased that you are here and are reading this. We are entering period where we are sharing more about our school, our exciting plans and more about the Steiner education philosophy.
About our school
A phrase that comes to mind when we talk about Helena River Steiner School is, “from little things, big things grow”. What started out as the Guildford Steiner Playgroup in 2013 and has since flourished into a non-government registered school. We offer classes from Playgroup through to Year 6 (with some exciting plans on the horizon!).
We have strong foundations in community. Our school offers additional connection opportunities such as craft and study groups that enhance our supportive school community.
Our exciting plans: A proposed Steiner High School in Midland
It has been our long-held dream to see Helena River Steiner School transform into a full-service schooling experience from Playgroup through to High School. That dream is becoming a reality with a Year 7 class proposed for Term 1 of 2021. We are currently seeking Expressions of Interest for students who wish to join us on this exciting journey next year. Learning more about Steiner education
A commonly asked question we receive is, “What is Steiner education and how does it differ from a mainstream education?”.
Steiner education offers the same educational opportunities as mainstream education. However, where it differs is that it is often delivered in a holistic environment. Typically located in surrounds that honour the natural world, children can flourish in an environment that encourages moral growth, social consciousness and citizenship. If you’d like to learn more, we do encourage you to visit the Steiner Education Australia website. This succinctly outlines the benefits of this gentle and nurturing philosophy.
